In a world that increasingly promises comfort, ease, and quick fixes, it’s tempting to view suffering as something purely negative—an obstacle to happiness and success. But history, psychology, and personal experience tell a different story. Suffering, while painful, is one of the most powerful catalysts for personal growth. It strips away illusion, builds resilience, and reveals the truth of who we are. When life is smooth, we often live on autopilot. We attach to fleeting identities—our jobs, social status, routines. But suffering disrupts this rhythm. Whether through heartbreak, loss, failure, or illness, suffering tears down the illusions we use to define ourselves. In that uncomfortable space of emptiness, we’re forced to ask deeper questions: What really matters? Who am I without this role, this relationship, this success? These questions are uncomfortable, but essential. Real identity is often forged in the ashes of what we thought we were.

People don’t remember what you said. They remember what you did.

Practicing what you preach doesn’t always have to be loud or grand. In fact, the quiet moments matter most — holding yourself accountable, honoring commitments, being honest when it’s inconvenient. That’s where integrity is built. If you preach kindness, are you kind when no one’s watching? If you champion innovation, do you create space for failure and experimentation? If you value well-being, do you take care of yourself, too?

Let’s not confuse this with needing to be perfect. No one gets it right 100% of the time. Practicing what you preach isn’t about flawless execution; it’s about honest effort. When you fall short, own it. Be transparent. Learn. That vulnerability actually strengthens your credibility — because it shows you’re human, and you care enough to do better.

We don’t need more empty promises. We need more people — and organizations — who are willing to live their values, not just talk about them. So, the next time you’re tempted to say the right thing, pause and ask:

Am I willing to do the right thing, too?

Because in the end, it’s not what you say that defines you. It’s what you do — consistently, quietly, and courageously.

As I sit here on Thanksgiving morning writing this post, I remember that the holiday season is supposed to be “the most wonderful time of the year,” but it can also be one of the most stressful. Between gift shopping, hosting gatherings, traveling, and balancing family and work commitments, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. If you’re looking to navigate the season with more ease and joy, here are some practical tips to help you manage holiday stress and make the most of this festive time.

Be sure to set realistic expectations. It’s tempting to aim for a picture-perfect holiday, but perfection is often the enemy of peace. Instead, focus on what truly matters—spending quality time with loved ones. Let go of unrealistic standards and embrace imperfections. Remember, the holidays are about connection, not perfection.

Give yourself some alone time! Amidst the hustle and bustle, it’s essential to carve out time for you. Simple practices like taking a walk, meditating, or enjoying a good book can help you recharge. Don’t neglect your basic needs—adequate sleep, healthy meals, and hydration are key to keeping your stress levels in check.

Make a plan! Last-minute rushing is a major stress trigger. Make a to-do list and break tasks into manageable chunks. Part of that plan should include your financial budget. Financial stress can dampen holiday cheer. Before you start shopping, decide how much you can afford to spend and stick to your budget. Remember, thoughtful gifts don’t have to be expensive. Sometimes, handmade or personalized presents carry more meaning than store-bought ones.

Most of us have a speech impediment when being asked to attend holiday functions.  We just can’t say “No”. You don’t have to attend every party or participate in every tradition. Overcommitting can lead to burnout. Be selective about the events you attend and give yourself permission to decline invitations that don’t align with your energy or priorities. On the flip side of that Physical activities like yoga, dancing, or even a brisk walk can help release pent-up tension. Creative outlets like baking, crafting, or journaling can also provide a calming effect. Find what works for you and make time for it.

Ultimately, the holidays are about joy and connection. Prioritize activities that genuinely make you happy, whether it’s watching holiday movies, baking cookies, or simply sitting by the fire with a good book. Lean into traditions that bring you comfort and let go of those that feel like obligations, and have a great holiday season!!!
